To the surprise of many Americans who associate this region of the country with the Great Awakenings, New England is now the least religious region in the United States. The top four states on both the “least religious” and “lowest church attendance” charts are all in New England. Because of the scarcity of Christ-exalting, gospel-centered churches, New England has been called “the New American Missional Frontier”.

While none of us gets excited about stats, we are grieved by the stories they represent – people whose lives are starved for gospel access and the truth of Christ. Despite the post-Christian mindset of most of the people of Vermont, Jesus has declared these fields ripe for harvest, and God is moving in powerful ways to awaken people to life in Christ. Churches are being planted. People are being saved. There is a discipleship movement well underway, but the need for laborers is still great. We need more men who will come here to be used of God to help Vermonters find life and hope in Jesus through church planting.
